November is Epilepsy Awareness Month

What is epilepsy?

Epilepsy is a neurological condition marked by recurrent seizures. Seizures can look very differentโ€”ranging from brief staring spells to full-body convulsions.

What doctors say

Neurologists often diagnose epilepsy using EEGs, MRIs, and medical history. Treatment includes anti-seizure medications, lifestyle modifications, and sometimes surgery or implanted devices.

Safety & support

Families and caregivers should know seizure first aid:

  • Keep the person safe from injury.
  • Do not restrain them.
  • Turn them on their side if possible.
  • Call emergency help if seizures last over 5 minutes.

Counseling & yearly care

Mental health counseling is vital, as epilepsy can increase risk for anxiety and depression. Annual follow-ups keep care plans up to date.

Declaration: I am more than my seizures. I am resilient, capable, and worthy of joy.

Prayer: God, grant healing, peace of mind, and strength for every individual and family touched by epilepsy. Amen.
