February is Heart Disease Awareness Month

Why this month matters

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women, but most cases can be prevented. Awareness and early action save lives.

What doctors say

Cardiologists highlight the importance of:

  • Regular blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar checks
  • Knowing your family history
  • Recognizing early warning signs: chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, fatigue, or irregular heartbeat
  • Calling 911 immediately if symptoms suggest a heart attack or stroke

Prevention & yearly care

  • Eat a heart-healthy diet (fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, low sodium)
  • Exercise at least 150 minutes per week
  • Quit smoking and limit alcohol use
  • Manage stress with prayer, counseling, and healthy outlets
  • Schedule annual physicals and heart screenings

Counseling & support

Stress, anxiety, and depression affect the heart, too. Counseling and spiritual care strengthen both body and soul.

Declaration: I choose to care for my heart. I will walk in health, wisdom, and strength.

Prayer: Lord, protect our heartsโ€”physically and spiritually. Strengthen us to live long, full, and purposeful lives. Amen.

โ€” Families of Victory reminds you: Go Red, because your heart matters.
